I. Some Facts in France

• Today women represent in France half of the Labor Force.

• Before they were working but weren’t recognized as workers (mostly in agricultural fields where they were helping their husbands, they were also nannies, maids or workers in plants for a very low income that they had to give to their husbands).

• They began to be recognized as workers in the sixties but were representing just ⅓ of the labour force. (13.2 million were men and 6.6 million were women).

• In 2010 they were representing 13.4 million of the labor force (men were representing 14.7 million).

• In the sixties 40% of women were active compared to 85% nowadays.

IV. Nowaydays

There is an increasing recognition of female potential in jobs.

Women are aware that working more is a necessity to show their skills, they have become breadwinners but many women are still working for low paid jobs or have a part time job.

Parity is defended by many governments but it doesn’t mean equality. Indeed, women are still paid less than men for the same job.
