The TOEIC test is a certification concerning your english language level

It's a reference for global companies to evalute job applicants, in prior language competencies from the TOEIC score !

Effective communication in English is essential to succeed in your job. It becomes one of the criteria to eliminate applicants.

First, you can prepare this exam with the official ETS manuals but it's a little bit expensive but more valuable for yours skills.

Secondly, choose a centre for your exam : your company or school can help to find it and make other administrative tasks.

Then, you pass and get a total score between 400 and 990 and you're efficient if you are between 750 and more

Who do you know this test ? What about this experience ?

Of course , i passed it 10 months ago.
It's 4 exams: writing, reading , speaking and listenig.

In reading, you have 3 texts and you should do only 20 minutes each of them.
In writing, you have to do two topics , the first one is something about economics like statistics, graphes that you have to give your commentary at least 150 words.and in the second one , it's a general topic like aids, freedom that you should developp it in at least 250 words.

In listening, you 'll try to answer about what you heard.

And in the last exam which is speaking , you 'll introduce your self and the teacher tries to ask you about your life, future, project , studies..etc during 10 to 15 minutes.

Finally, we have to obtain 6.5 bands.

And that's it!!! Razz

For your first question: It requires by British universities
Second one: there are many training centers that you could take some courses
Third one: by internet, or try to contact these universities
The fourth one: You can learned how to read a text and understand it rapidly, improve your listening, speaking and writing. You have to be very speed when you give your answer , specially in listening.

That's it????

I think that you'll be able to understand me as you remember word number of questions Wink

Hi,

TOEIC official website here.

Official training here.(Link from the above mentionned home page...)

Every Top French Business School requires its students a minimum score of 750 or 800 to graduate.

I passed it in 2005 and got 750. It is a crap result as it is the minimum required, so I am not proud of it. Thankfully I went to UK straight after, worked on my grammar a lot and passed successfully the TOEFL.

TOEIC is usually a test required by companies. TOEFL is required by universities worldwide. Some uni will accept you as exchange with TOEIC only but you might have to negociate with the international services...

TOEIC score last lifelong whilst TOEFL score is declared unacceptable after 1/2 years (according to the TOEFL version - paper-based, computer based or internet-based). Both tests only aim at evaluating your understanding and English skills, as does IELTS (Cambridge test, acceptable by UK universities rather than TOEFL, which was developed in the US).

US MBA (and some other business programs such as ESSEC PhD) will require as well the GMAT, an English test including numerical tests, a bit like the French tests ARPEGE or TAGE-MAGE (but in English).

Good luck with the training !

Hi Smile

I passed the TOIEC test last december, I guess that the hardest thing in the test is actually concentrating straight for 2h to some silly and basic exam.

The test itself is really not hard.
Part 1 - Audio
The hard thing here, is that they are no stops, so you have to be 100% into the audio. Also, there are many different speakers with different english accents.

It will start with some statements that are based on pictures that you have on your questions sheet, then you have to say what the person is doing.
For example, you have a picture of a cat on the table, and the tape will say:
A. Kat is hiding next to the table
B. A cat is sitting on the table
C. A chair is on the floor
D. A cat is sleeping under the table

Then you will have some conversations, and will have to chose correct statements.

Part 2 - Written
You start with a grammatical part with sentences like:
My parents are going on holiday _____ I am passing my exams
A. During
B. Through
C. While
D. Not

Then you have some text comprehensions.

So honest, really nothing to be scared about. If your English is good, there is no reason to panic Smile

Hello Forum

The TOEIC is not so difficult if you prepare for it properly. Naturally your English must also be quite good. I noticed some links here for Online Preparation and wish to add possibly the best one on the internet. You can go and have a look at it and I hope it will help.

The URL is www.onlineenglish.eu

They start by estimating your level so you can see where you need to learn. Then you complete exercises and work on your weak points. There is a lot of content with additional areas for English grammar and Vocabulary learning. They also have cretaed what they call a video library. Here you can improve listening comprehension and also improve your ability to pick information out of conversations. There are lots of tips on the website and you will also get a trainer. They even have exercises for speaking improvement where you upload audio answers to the trainer. You dont need any special software.

Go and try it. It is quite impressive. And don't forget to read the comments from their members.
